Mardi
Gras
Since
its start, as a small street march in 1978, the Sydney Gay and
Lesbian Mardi Gras has developed into a huge international event
attracting over 500,000 people to a four week festival that
culminates in a street parade and party. The festival is a flamboyant
declaration by the Gay & Lesbian community of their lifestyle,
the influence that they have had on western culture, and of
their right to be treated equally in a modern society. The festival
has become an iconic world event that promotes diversity, tolerance,
expression, extravagant costumes and wild times. |
